       Mosquitoes

Just as there are many species of plants, there are just as many species of mosquitoes. But do not bfooled by their size-their bites are itchy, and for one or two species, fatal.

Now, mosquitoes belong to the Animal Kingdom and are classified as insects. Many people think that mosquitoes are irritating, but they have some usefulness, too.

Only female mosquitoes suck blood, but for two reasons.

1.)         Their mouths have the perfect shape.

2.)         They lay eggs, so they need blood to help fertilize their eggs.

Male mosquitoes do not suck blood for just the opposite reasons. Instead, they suck nectar from flowers.

However, some mosquitoes are dangerous, and their bites are deadly. Let me tell you two examples.

The Andes Mosquito is the most dangerous mosquito. It spreads deadly diseases around the world, known as Dengue Fever. A person with Dengue will have the following symptom:

1.)         A high fever lasting for a few days.(that’s all I know)

The Andes Mosquito only bites only in the day.

The Anopheles Mosquito bites only at night. It causes a disease called Malaria.

These mosquitoes spread when the mosquito(s) get infected with the disease and bites another person. Then, another mosquito bites the infected person and when it bites another person, he or she gets infected with the disease. The Andes Mosquito can be recognised by the black and white spots on its body.

Although these diseases seem to be unstoppable, we can prevent them using mosquito control. Here are a few ways:

1.)         Change water in flower pots on alternate days.

2.)         Cover all bamboo holders when not in use.

3.)         Turn over all water storage containers.

4.)         Most important of all, make sure water doesn’t collect. Remember! Msquitoes      breed in clear, stagnant water!
